This season, treat your party-goers to this deliciously frightful Halloween bloody lemonade recipe! Inspired by Oogie Boogie's Apple Lemonade found in Disneyland, this creepy beverage tastes just like a green apple Jolly Rancher!
Found at Smokejumpers Grill during Disneyland's Halloween season, the description for the drink reads:
“Green apple lemonade with cherry-flavored popping spheres and raspberry sauce”
This drink is quite the spooky sight
Clinging to the side of the cup, the raspberry sauce drips and hangs like splattered blood. Unfortunately, you can't just use any sauce or syrup to get this effect. The best sauce is one specifically designed to cling to a plate, just like they use in restaurants. We found the best results using Smuckers Plate Scrapers, in raspberry flavor. Since the sauce clings to the cup, you won't get a lot of raspberry flavor here. It's mostly for show!
Another spooky addition to the Halloween bloody lemonade recipe is its striking neon-green color. While this color is intended to remind you of Oogie Boogie himself, there's no denying it will evoke Halloween vibes in all guests...even those who haven't seen the movie Nightmare Before Christmas. The neon green hue is courtesy of Monin granny smith apple syrup. Luckily, this tastes just like a green apple Jolly Rancher!
A few tips for success:
- Use Minute Maid Lemonade. It's not as tart as other lemonade.
- In this recipe, we dilute the lemonade with water to balance the added sweetness from the syrup.
- For groups, you can pre-mix the beverage in larger quantities by using 2 L bottles of Minute Maid lemonade.
- For those sugar/carb/calorie conscious, consider using Minute Maid Light Lemonade.
While completely optional, this Halloween bloody lemonade recipe is topped with cherry boba popping pearls. While it's fun, we found they didn't do a lot for the drink, in both taste and appearance. That being said, if boba's your thing, please go for it! And please check out our Star Wars Galaxy's Edge drinks, including Jabba Juice, which features blueberry boba popping pearls.
Lastly, this drink is both kid and adult friendly. Should you choose to make it alcoholic, any clear liquor pairs well with this Halloween apple lemonade drink. Just make sure it's clear so you don't wind up disturbing its signature neon green color. Cîroc apple vodka is a nice choice. Enjoy!
