Seeking Galaxy's Edge outfit ideas to look the part during for our first trip to Batuu, we learned that, in lieu of costumes, people ages 14+ are encouraged to dress like the local residents of the planet Batuu. This is called “Batuu Bounding" and it's also a great way to bring Disney into your life outside the parks (#diznify), by adding some pieces to your daily wardrobe!
While knowledgeable on Batuu's food and drink after creating Galaxy's Edge copycat recipes back home, we had no idea how Batuuians dress. Luckily, the locals (Cast Members) have some seriously accessible fashion trends. Consisting of mainly outdoors wear, the garments remind us of ones seen while hiking on the North Shore of Minnesota.
While this outdoorsy fashion isn’t necessarily “our look,” we decided to get a few new items-- including a plum colored infinity scarf and a cashew-colored vest-- for first trip to Galaxy's Edge (paid links). We had no plans to wear these items back home, but changed our tune for the opening night of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. At work that day, we were thrilled to receive compliments on our new threads. Especially since this clothing holds so many precious Disney parks memories.
Here are our top 10, Galaxy's Edge outfit ideas whether you're on Batuu or Earth!
1. Earthy, Monochromatic Colors
With both clothing and accessories, stick to monochromatic, earthy hues in green, blue, purple, brown and black. Holding a fuzzy baby tauntaun doesn't hurt either!
2. Infinity Scarves
The easiest way to fit in in Batuu is to throw on a solid-colored, infinity scarf. If scarves aren’t your thing, you can get a similar look with a cowl neck.
Part of our Batuu-inspired wardrobe includes this scarf found on Amazon (paid link). It’s so soft. It looks great worn around our neck, but is also large enough to throw part of it over our heads like they do in Galaxy’s Edge.
3. Stocking Hats
In addition to scarfs worn over their heads, residents of Batuu wear simple, solid-color stocking hats to keep warm. To avoid heat stroke, this is a trend best kept for cooler temperatures!
4. Ankle and Wrist Warmers
This is our favorite Batuu clothing trend! At the ends of pants and sleeves, you’ll notice that the clothing material changes and also has a much snugger fit. Excess fabric creates a very unique ruched or gathered look! We’ve seen Rey sport similar style trends.
To get this look, pick up a pair of leg warmers or gaiters, or cut off the ends of a pair of knee high socks and put them over the ends of shirt sleeves and pant legs.
5. Closed-Toed Shoes
Put your new ankle warmers over a pair of black or brown boots —and we’re not talking about the big, clunky, winter type. The boots here are stylish and suitable for walks and hikes. Again, on Batuu, you must be prepared for whatever the day brings!
With the sometimes-sweltering climate on Batuu, it's tempting to wear sandals. But, if you want to fit in, stick with closed-toed shoes.
6. Vests
Han Solo’s fashion influence is so strong, it reached the edge of the galaxy! Sport a vest and you’ll look like you can make the Kessel Run in less than 12 seconds. Choose one with pockets for all your cargo, and you'll really fit on Batuu.
For our Batuu inspired wardrobe, we chose this soft, extra long vest in a cashew color. This is strictly a fashion accessory, and is not meant to provide any warmth, which makes it very versatile. In Florida, we throw it over a black t-shirt and keep cool in the Florida heat. Back home, we throw it over a black turtleneck to keep warm in the snowy winter.
7. Fashion Belts
Another Han-inspired fashion trend is a large, metal belt buckle. The belts on Batuu aren’t simply meant to hold up pants; Residents proudly display belts as fashion accessories.
8. Hiking Accessories
Sport a rugged, crossbody bag with enough pockets to store all your survival essentials.
This includes all-important water! Get a water bottle belt clip and attach a canister to your belt or waistband. Bottom line: Always be ready for an expedition!
9. Patchwork Jackets
A lot of work goes into these garments on Batuu. We love these patchwork jackets that look handmade by local artisans.
10. Extra Pleats on Pant Legs and Shirtsleeves
While clothing colors in Batuu are often monochromatic, extra pleats and fringes liven them up. When searching for similar styles online, the keywords pleated, ruched or gathered might point you in the right direction.
Check out the knees on the pants pictured above! The many pleats look similar to clothing worn by Rey and Kylo Ren. Extra pleats can also be found on shirtsleeves in the photo pictured for Infinity Scarves (above, #2).

This article is the best guidance I've seen anywhere on how to Batuu-bound! Thank you for posting it! My costume is in work but it's going to hiking boots, blue cargo pants (drawstring, no belt), a gray shirt with ribbed sleeves, and then I need to decide whether to use the khaki-green fisherman's vest (lots of pockets) or the used green cross-body bag with a clipped brown nylon phone case on the opposite hip.

Love this! However a little known fact is that the pleating effect shown here on the pants is actually known as a "pin tuck"!

Thank you, Angeline!
